Below you'll find a video compilation of some of the projects I've done in prior years. In it you'll see:
Flying Saucer (2008) I developed from scratch an 80-channel lighting controller that can drive either EL Wire or LED Rope light, and used it
to animate a flying saucer art-bike - a four-person surrey with a flying saucer canopy
Furry Surrey (2009) Ok, so the saucer itself looked OK but was a gigantic pain in the ass to transport. So it got chopped up and discarded
(so sad), the rope light was repurposed, and I rewrote some firmware.
Puff the Dragon (2010) The theme camp I camped with (Black Rock Lemonade) was told they wouldn't get a night-time permit unless the
lighting was stepped up. So I repurposed one of the 80-channel lighting controllers and wrote some new code and gave Puff some animated
features. Over a 1/4 mile of wiring went into this thing. OMG.
Pilotless Propane Poofer (2012) My only foray into flame effects so far. I wanted to ignite a propane discharge without using a pilot flame.
So the though would just be sitting there nice and quiet and fwooooosh, fire! The original plan was to make some sort of a Gatling gun type effect, so
I created a new 17-channel circuit board which used big-ass MOSFETs for solenoid control, and IGBTs to excite an ignition coil up to ~ 50,000 volts to
create an ignition spark. Oh and it had a wireless remote control so you could startle the crap out of people. Brought it out to Juplaya that year.
Box Office Sign (2012) Nimbus asked Joe and I to help with the new Box Office sign. So I refittted one of the 17-channel controller boards with all MOSFETs, and wrote some new firmware, and one weekend Joe and I went up to SF and wired the whole thing up. If you've come in through the gate
at night the past few years, there's no way you could have missed it.
Cargo Crate (2013) The first mutant vehicle I've done on my own. Well, I had a ton of welding help from my brother. Ran great, the crate
part looked hokey. The lights were kewl though. You can read more about it here.
Fortune Teller's Tent (2015) Recycled the frame and some of the lighting from the Cargo Crate, learned how to sew and turned it into a tent. Details
here.
Fortune Teller's Tent 2.0 (2016) An iteration on the Fortune Teller's tent. I thought I could just recycle
a bunch of stuff. I thought wrong. You can read about that adventure
here.
